Description
The setting sun in the Grand Canyon on a clear night is very enthralling. You could stand there for hours if the sun stayed up that long. The landscape colors change by the minute as the sun sets in the west. The reds deepen, the white rocks gather a hint of yellow and the blues in the sky intensify until the dark of night starts setting in.
This image was taken on the South Rim of the Grand Canyon in early April. If you look closely, you can still see snow on the ground in the canyon. Hiking down into the canyon at this time of year can be quite dangerous as the sun does not hit all the paths to melt the snow and ice accumulation. On a good day, the hiking trails are rugged, narrow, and steep. When you throw in ice and snow, it can be extremely tricky trying to maneuver down into the canyon. There are no guardrails to prevent someone from falling off the side of a trail to his or her death should one slip and fall. That being said, I would strongly suggest seeing this spectacular National Park and if it is on a warm, dry day with no snow or ice, hike down a bit into the canyon and see all Mother Nature's beauty in a natural habitat. Just bring plenty of water and power bars to energize your return to the top!

Thanks, Carla. I tend to use something to frame my images when I can. And of course, Mother Nature is loaded with natural frames! Sometimes, I over-due...

Lovely! It is kinda unusual to see a portrait style image of the canyon, and this works so very well with the inclusion of the tree to frame the scene. v

This picture captures the essence of the canyon. You have been able to include a classic tree, the beautiful colors of the canyon and the sky and finally the awe-inspiring vastness. Congratulations!
