Italy is abundant in ancient history. Just take a trip to Rome and your mind will be overwhelmed with all the antiquity throughout the vast city. Go shopping in a new store and next to it could be a church that is hundreds of years old. Walk down a street and there in front of you, with cars driving all around it, is this monumental structure where gladiators fought to the death, christians were sacrificed, and plays depicting famous battles were put on for the entertainment of the Roman masses.
When you step inside the Coliseum, a chill runs down the spine. The air feels heavy with the smells of spices and sweat. The cheers from the crowds echo in the hallways wrapping around the inside walls of the arena. The smell of death permeates the air. Its a step back in time. Outside the building, you hear the honking of cars and the voices of people today shouting at each other as they try to cross the street filled with vehicles speeding to destinations unknown.
